Part of her exulted that he’d asked her, out of everyone in the coach, this question; he must think her intelligent. The rest of her, though, wanted to slap herself for disproving his thought. Here was her opportunity to have her fantasy of a deep philosophical conversation come true with Garth, and all she could say was well, not really. Idiot! Colleen Chen
About This Quote

This quote is a snippet of a conversation between a woman and a man she has a crush on. She is excited to hear him mention her name and he immediately changes the topic to something much more interesting than her. When he changes the topic, she is flattered that he chose her out of the entire group. However, when he does so, she feels like he is discounting her intelligence.

She feels like she has failed in proving his opinion of her intelligence. However, in the end, she learns that it doesn't matter what anyone thinks about her intelligence or how intelligent she is, it only matters that people think she is beautiful. Thus, it doesn't matter if people think you're smart or not, all that matters is how much they care about you and how beautiful you are.
